Adjust Your IELTS Academic Scores:
IELTS Academic vs. IELTS General Training
For all Master's degree admissions, you MUST take IELTS Academic. The General Training version is intended for permanent immigration (e.g. Canadian Express Entry) and is rejected by international university admissions committees.
The "Writing Trap" Explained
Many applicants score 7.5 in Listening and 7.0 in Reading, resulting in a 7.0 Overall band. However, if their Writing score is 6.0 while the university specifies "minimum 6.5 in each component", the application is rejected automatically.
Accepted Test Alternatives
- TOEFL iBT: Globally accepted (typical cutoff 88-100). Check if Home Edition is accepted by your faculty.
- PTE Academic (Pearson): Rapid computer scoring (typically 58-68 score equals 6.5 IELTS). Widely accepted in UK & Australia.
- Duolingo English Test (DET): Convenient online test, accepted by select US, Canadian, and Irish institutions (rare in Germany/Sweden).
Medium of Instruction (MOI) Waivers
Pakistani universities conduct higher education in English. An MOI letter confirms that your 4-year Bachelor degree was instructed and examined entirely in English.
Where MOI fails: UKVI visa requirements, Uni-Assist German certificates, and Erasmus Mundus scholarships strictly demand standardized test TRFs.
